What you need to know about Fluoroscopy.
Fluoroscopy is a procedure performed by a radiologist to view tissues and organs in motion. During the procedure, a continuous X-ray beam is emitted through the part of the body being examined to produce a moving image.
During Fluoroscopy, X-ray contrast agents, such as barium or iodine, are used to better visualise the internal organs or specific areas of the body.
The reasons for a screening can be extremely varied since it can be used to depict a wide array of internal organs and specific parts of the body. Please speak to your radiologist to discuss what your specific procedure involves. Types of fluoroscopy procedures include:
- Arthroscopic/joint infiltrations, in conjunction with MRI
- Barium swallow
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) test for female infertility
- Pain injections (Infiltrations)
- Upper gastrointestinal (GI)
- Barium enema
- Barium meal
- Myelography
- Small bowel follow-through (SBFT) test
- Voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) test
